Wrist support – which support suits you and your everyday life?

Our wrists are with us in almost everything we do – from working at the computer and lifting in everyday life to training, sports, and recovery. When the wrist starts to hurt, feel unstable, or overloaded, a wrist support can be a simple and effective way to provide relief, security, and better conditions for continued activity.

But which wrist support should you choose? And when is it actually appropriate to use one? In this post, we guide you through different types of wrist supports and share practical tips on how you can use wrist supports in everyday life and training. In addition, our physiotherapist, Ida, shares tips on five popular models from our range.

When might a wrist support be a good choice?

Wrist supports are often used when the wrist needs support and relief, for example, in the following cases:

  • overload in everyday life or work
  • pain or instability during exercise and sports
  • one-sided movements, for example, when working on a computer
  • return to activity after a previous injury

A wrist support does not replace rehabilitation or treatment, but can be a good complement that makes it easier to continue being active in a controlled manner.

Different types of wrist supports – from soft compression to stable splints

Not all wrist supports are the same. The choice depends on how much support you need and in what situation you will be using it.

Soft wrist supports with compression

Soft wrist supports provide light support and comfortable compression around the wrist. They are great for:

  • mild pain or stiffness
  • preventive use
  • training and sports where mobility is important

The compression can increase body awareness and provide a sense of stability without restricting movement.

Wrist support with stabilizing splint/splints

Wrist supports with a rigid splint provide more stability and relief. They are often used when the wrist needs to be held in a more controlled position, for example, in:

  • pronounced instability
  • pain on exertion
  • need for extra support in everyday life.

These models can often be adjusted to suit activity and needs.

For specific wrist problems such as carpal tunnel syndrome and De Quervain's syndrome, we recommend that you read more in our Injury Guide, where you will find medical and in-depth information about various wrist injuries and problems.

Ida recommends – five popular wrist supports from our range

Our physiotherapist, Ida, shares five different models of wrist supports in our range, covering everything from sports to everyday use and extra stability:

1. The SRX wrist support is a flexible wrist strap in a universal size that provides light support for the wrist. The model is well-suited for training where the wrist needs extra security without limiting mobility or hand function.

2. The Push Sports wrist support is a stable yet flexible wrist support with splints that stabilize the wrist while maintaining grip. Popular in racket sports, gym training, and other activities where grip is key.

3. Wrist support with integrated thumb support is the obvious choice for those with De Quervain's syndrome. This model combines wrist support with thumb support and has a stable and pressure-relieving design. The support is perfect for daily use.

4. The Dynamics wrist support is a stable wrist support with two stabilizing splints. The wrist support is a suitable model after, for example, a wrist fracture and cast removal of the wrist. The smart lace system and the ability to remove the splints mean that the degree of support can be adjusted as needed.

5. The Ventus wrist support has a splint with a lower, neutral wrist angle, which makes it particularly suitable for carpal tunnel syndrome. It is also suitable for use if you have an inflammation of the wrist or rheumatoid arthritis. The wrist support is easily applied with four Velcro straps on the top of the wrist. It is available in two colors.

How to use a wrist support in a smart way

  • Use the wrist support in situations where the wrist needs extra support or relief – for example, during strain, repeated movements, or when the wrist needs to be kept in a more neutral position, even at rest or at night.
  • See the wrist support as a complement to other measures, not as a solution in itself.
  • Pay attention to how your wrist feels over time and adjust usage according to your needs and everyday situation.
